Skin warts appear as if they are harmless growths. But they are actually an infection in the top layer of skin, caused by viruses in the human papillomavirus, or HPV, family. There can come in different areas in various forms.
The commonest is a cauliflower-like growth on the skin called the 'common wart'
However, when they occur in the palms and soles, they may look rounded up and cause pain when you squeeze it.
It can also occur on face and neck as flattened red, brown to skin coloured rashes called 'flat warts,' often confused by patients to be pimples or allergy.
Some can occur as large cauliflower-like masses around the private parts and these are the 'genital warts'
